A ShIFt in “Selling” your product or services!
Friday, October 6th, 2006It seems to be a common “theme” that many entreprenuers have great ideas for their businesses and love “creating” their businesses, but when it comes to “selling” their business, their services, their products or themselves, all sort of “issues”, pertaining to “FEAR”, appear and bring them to a screeching halt!
As someone who loves “selling”, I tend to not “get” what all the fear is about. Perhaps it is because I have a different belief about “selling” than many of these people.
Common Misperceptions:
1. All Sales People are “con-artists”.
2. All Sales People are “pushy”.
3. All Sales People are just going after the “sale” and do not care about their customers.
4. All Sales People are “money hungry.”
5. All Sales People are “obnoxious and annoying”.
These seem to be just a few of the common mis-perceptions that I have heard from many people who have fear about putting on the “sales hat.”
First of all, while many of us have had experience with some sales people who have seemed to have these “traits”…just like any profession, there are quality professionals and there are those who are unable to demonstrate what is looked upon as “quality”. Some of these “sales people” may have been lacking in skills, good training or experience… or they may truly have been “desperate” for a paycheck, if they were “commission based” or if their company used “motivation by fear” tactics with their sales people. They also may have been fearful of losing their job!
What IF we shIFT perspectives on this whole “fear of selling” thing and come from a place of deep knowing, that what we have to offer is a “gift” to the world. That all of us have special and unique talents… that there is nobody on this planet like us “individually” and that what we have to offer has TREMENDOUS VALUE. IF we do not go out and share our passion for Who We Are as Entreprenuers, who have created a business with a GRAND PURPOSE, then we are cheating ourselves and everyone else who is missing out on what we have to offer! Wouldn’t that be a shame???? Touching other people’s lives is so worthwhile, isn’t it?
So, instead of getting all caught up in the past, with some bad experiences of people who were “lacking in their sales skills and training” and who may have been “desperate”, just make a shIFT and a commitment to yourself, that you will not show up as one of those poor people. Remember what we put out comes back to us ( universal law of attraction) So, forgive them and bless them for their “issues” and let your issues with them go. You are not them, are you? ( And…IF you are, all the more reason for you to shIFt!)
Your business, your talents, your gifts that you have come to share on this Earth, have nothing whatsoever to do with them!
IF you come from a place of knowing WHO YOU ARE and WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER and share your passion authentically… then people will respond in a positive way!
That is TRUE SELLING! That is why I have always loved selling. There is a quote out there that says, “Sales is 90% Enthusiasm and 10% skill!” That is so true and that has always been my experience!
IF you have enthusiasm about your business, service or products, then GO TO IT! The sales results will follow!
