There is no doubt that we are living in stressful times with our economy and so many people without jobs. When job loss occurs, unbelievable stress can hit us!

Here are 10 tips to shift to release stress constructively:

1. Write down all the issues you are stressed out about, then check off the ones that YOU actually have control over.

2. Write out some strategy steps to help yourself create solutions for the ones you have control over.

3. Write the ones down you do not have control over and burn them in a clay pot or in your grill or fireplace and release them to your Higher Power and ask for help on those.

4. Go out for a run and box away your tension like Rocky Balboa in the first “Rocky” movie.

5. Hit your bed with a plastic baseball bat, a foam swim floaty or something that will not break anything. (It is best to do this when nobody is home, because you could sound a little psycho as you get into releasing all of your tension!) ha ha Maybe put on the stereo, so the neighbors cannot hear your and do not call the police, too!

6. Have a family member or friend massage your back where you are holding your tension.

7. Take a hot bath and read an uplifting book.

8. Talk to someone who you trust who is supportive and can help you deal with your issues.

9. Scream in a pillow and/or have a good cry.

10. Meditate or relax to calming music and go to your heart and ask your Higher Power to help you and guide you towards a more peaceful state.

All of these suggestions are ways to release stress in a way that is more constructive than the typical ways of eating, drinking etc.

Blessings to you on your shifts,

Every society has its protectors of the status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. But today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

These are very profound words. Are you one who engages and embraces your situation when you see of feel a change of shift happening? Or are you one who puts your head in the sand in denial of the change or shift, hoping that it will not affect you?

Something to ponder?

I am willing to wager, that the one who makes the conscious choice to engage and embrace the change or shift, is the one who will come out of it in a much more positive state.

Trust that when change or shift occurs in your life, that it is all happening for a reason, and…that whether you think so at the time, you most likely will be better off in the end…once you make it through the shift!

Do you know how much time you spend checking your e-mails in 1 week? I heard some research had been done on this particular question and the answer was, on average, 8.5 hours. That is a lot of time that takes you away from your “productivity”. Some people may think that e-mails are part of their productivity. However, we all know how time consuming checking e-mails throughout the day can be.

So, IF you want to shIFt the amount of time that you spend on e-mails, here are some tips that you can do to save you a lot of time.

1. Only allow yourself to have 1 -2 times in your work day, where you schedule in time to check your e-mails.

2. Decide how important it is to respond to each and every e-mail or if it can wait FOREVER.

3. Evaluate who you are receiving e-mails from and IF you do not want to receive e-mails from that person, call them and let them know that you would rather communicate via the phone or voice mail. ( IF possible…it depends on the circumstance in your career or if you work for someone else or a corporation)

4. IF you are an entrepreneur, and you get a lot of e-mails from being on a lot of e-blitz or “internet marketing lists”, evaluate whether you really are opening those e-mails or receiving any value from them or not and IF you are not…UNSUBSCRIBE from them.

5. IF you have the luxury of not having to spend a lot of your time behind the computer, to do your work, then turn your computer off for most of your work day and only check your e-mails once in the morning and once in the early to mid-afternoon. That is what I have been doing and I really feel a shIFt in my energy and work productivity, since I have been doing that.

Many people use the computer as a “companion” to feel like they are being productive by being on it…but sometimes it can just be a time filler or a time waster. It is important to evaluate how much time you spend e-mailing and IF you can shIFT to be more productive in your career, by spending less time on e-mail.

Good Luck in your career shIFts,

                                                                                         ~ Marianne Williamson

Hi Career ShIFters!

What does achievement mean to you? One thing for sure is…your definition of achievement will mean something different to you than to anyone or everyone else.

As the quote above states, “Achievement does not come from what we do…but from who we are…” So, then the big question is: “Who are you?”

Do you know who you really are? Many people define themselves by their career titles such as a “doctor” or a “realtor”, for example.

But, when the doctor retires, is he still a doctor? When the realtor is hit with a poor economy where houses are going through foreclosure left and right… and there is a glut of houses on the market and business is slow…what do they do with ”who they are” as a realtor?

Well, my personal answer to those questions are…these people need to take a look at why they chose their profession or career in the first place.

For example, did the doctor choose their profession as a doctor to heal people, serve humanity. Or to do their best to use the most updated medical technology to improve the health of their patients? ~OR~ did the doctor choose their profession because they wanted to elevate their social status, to be a professional and make a lot of money? The definition of achievement would be different with these 2 different intentions.

Looking at the realtor…did they choose their profession because they loved looking at different homes and they derived great pleasure in helping people find their new homes or sell their homes, that they have lived in and loved? OR did the realtor choose that career, just because there was an opportunity to make some great money? Again, the definition of achievement, might be different in these 2 cases.

I think you may be able to see what I am getting at. What are the motivations of people when they choose their careers? Let’s get back to the quote above :” Our worldly power results from our personal power. Our career is an extension of our personality.”

So, what is it in your career, that is an extension of your personality?

Let’s look at my career as a coach. My personality is warm and engaging, I am optimistic, I am someone who loves learning and seeking out new ways of understanding things. I love helping people. I have a special ablility to help shift and uplift people, and I am a good communicator through speaking and writing.

That is a brief rundown of my personality. Based on what a coach does to serve people, My career is a good extension of my personality. Now, I am willing to wager, that if a doctor only became a doctor to elevate their social status and make a lot of money…very soon into this doctor’s career, they will demonstrate that they are not a very good doctor, because their heart will not be INTO what they are doing.

The same thing goes for the realtor. Now, in the housing crises and our stressed economy…a realtor is going to need to evaluate why they chose their career. I know of some realtors who love what they do and business is going great for them in our current ecomony. I also know of some realtors who are looking for a different career at this point. Maybe their heart was not into what they were doing enough to stick with it?

It is really important to figure out WHO YOU ARE and what your personality is ,as you evaluate you career shIFt. As humans, we have a tendency to grow and shift over time, so it stands to reason, that we may need to allow our career to change along with us as we change.

Aligning your career with your personality will most likely cause you to have a lot better feeling of achievment than if you are “suffering” in a career that is not in alignment with WHO YOU ARE, at this point in your life.

Evaluating where you are, who you are and what your definition of achievement is will help you tap into your personal power. Good Luck!

Blessings in your Career ShIFts,

IF you are looking for a shIFt in your career, it is really important to follow the wisdom of William Shakespeare and be true to yourself!

It is a common issue that people are in careers that are not fulfilling to them. They dread getting up in the morning and going to work. If this is the case with you, then you are being hit by a 2 x 4 to evaluate you career and do what you can to create your own career change.

Don’t you think you are worth a happy life? If you are dreading going to work in the morning, those feelings are certainly impeding on your happiness, aren’t they?

If you are lost and do not know where to even start in evluating your career change opportunities, then maybe it is time to hire a career coach.

You may be surprised on how a career coach could help you change your career.

You are the only one who can be true to yourself when it comes to your career!

“To thine own self be true…”
